Hello viewers and members - In keeping with our group goals to celebrate not only the art but the artists - please look to this section to see the monthly featured artist information. This artists work will occupy the Featured section of the gallery all month
The featured artist for the month of May is (insert drum roll here)
Bernice was one of our first members, certainly one of our most prolific members, and one of the sweetest people I have had the pleasure of meeting on dA. She has a great natural eye for a picture, and uses post-production in some of the most unique ways.
It is a pleasure to feature her work this month. I hope you enjoy as much as we do. Please visit her gallery, and show some love.
... and now, ~Smurfesque in her own words.
Hi everyone, I am originally from Irvine, Ayrshire, Scotland but came to the Gold Coast, Australia 4 years ago. I love it here and I have made friends who enjoy art as I do and have joined a Photo Arts Club at Tweed Heads which stretches my photographic skills. Although I have had many occupations along the way (Countryside Ranger[protecting the planet], Graphic Artist [beautifying the planet], Weapons Trials Project Manager for QinetiQ [blowing up the planet], hotelier [making money]), I now find myself as a Marketing Manager for two local professional contemporary artists. I always wanted to spend more time on art and now my dream has come true as I work part-time and have given up watching TV!
About 18 months ago I decided to teach myself some photoshop stuff (to improve my not so perfect photographs) which quickly turned into a passion for me! I have been photoshopping like mad ever since. About 7 months ago I got the hang of layers and started doing photomontage [link] and now photomanipulation I also scan into the computer some of my artworks and give them a whole new digital persona [link]
The majority of my gallery is, however, digital darkroom with the older images full of filters and saturation [link] and the newer stuff a bit more subtle [link]
Other things to look for in my gallery are designs created for tee shirts [link] and images created totally digitally [link] and Vexel illustrations [link] and architecture [link] and celtic inspired knotwork and brushes [link]
I use an Olympus 725 SW compact digital waterproof camera and sometimes my partner's Canon EOS20D, a cheap and cheerful graphic tablet, CS3, a vivid imagination and endless patience.
I have been truely amazed at what I've learned over the past year and a half and the great fun I've had with it all. At the end of the day.....that's what life's for.....having fun.
Thank you for this oppertunity to show my work to a larger audience and for listening to me.
Hugs and kisses Bernice (aka ~Smurfesque )
